Production Report

Production Report

We started to capture our short film on Saturday the 6th of February at Charley’s flat up in Woodall Farm, where we encountered a few problems such as lighting, forgetting lines, and one of actors turned up late.

The first problem that we encountered was our actors forgetting their lines in the first few shots, which was shot in the grounds of the flats. It took us 4 or 5 times to get this right. Also another problem that we had was the lighting in the block of flats. The shot is quite dark and we were unable to brighten the shot up as there was no switch to turn on the lights for the stairwell as they are lights set on a timer. In order for us to have improved it we could have used a back light to illuminate the actors in the second scene to make what they are doing more visible to the viewer. We also had a few poor camera shots, such as when the camera is supposed to be panning round the HOODED – MAN’S face but instead of stopping on his face the camera just carries on panning so his face is then out of shot and all the viewer can see is the window of the building.

Due to our location, which is a block of flats it meant that all our filming was on top of each other and we were all crammed into corners to try and fit all the shots that we needed in. An example of this would be the shot where the three girls are walking up the stairs. (Screen grab)

As we were filming we had a few problems we panning as we sometimes lost focus on some of the characters and it looks a bit poor. One of the reasons for this happening is because of the space we had available, because the characters and the cameras were so close the shot seems like it the actors are walking really fast and this means that the camera man had to pan really quickly and this either caused the lens to go out of focus or for the characters to disappear out of shot. Another problem we had with filming was us watching back the tape. We shouldn’t have done this because it creates breaks in time for our tape when we were logging. What we should have done was carry on filming, and if we thought we shot it wrong we shouldn’t have gone back and watched it we should have just re-shot the scene.
